Find the perfect domain – Wordoid.com

If you’re like me every time you come up with a killer idea the first thing you do is go and register the domain name.

I always have to make sure that I secure the web address so no one else can steal it.

Seth Godin recently mentioned Wordoid.com as a suggestion tool for domains. It helps you find available domains that include your keyword. Check it out.

Grade Your Website in 30 seconds

WebsiteGrader and Woorank are awesome tools that can help you understand how your website stacks up against others. I use them both to show clients how they can optimize the marketing effectiveness of their websites.

Simply input your web address and let the two systems generate a grade that tells you how you rank on a scale of 1 – 100. You’ll also get a list of recommendations to make your site better. Some are technical and some are not. Even if you know nothing about HTML, DNS or SEO this report will help you understand what a good web development company can do to increase your online effectiveness.

I’ve added the WebsiteGrader badge for JaysonManship.com to the right sidebar. It started at 68. My goal is to get it over 80 by the end of February.

YouTube brings the Mixtape into the 21st Century

I remember the days of the mix tape on my Sony Walkman. CDs and CD burners came along and made it even easier to record and share tunes. Then the web, Napster and theĀ iPod completely revolutionized the concept of sharing music.

Today, YouTube unveiled Disco where users can create customized playlists using YouTube videos. Sounds to me like Informer, Parents just don’t understand, and Seven have just found their way back into my heart.

Posterous = Email…on Steroids

posterous_logo1Posterous.com lets you create a website simply by sending an email. Type and send to post@posterous.com and you will get an automated response message with a link to your new automatically created website. The website will include all information that you provided in your email (text, pictures, movies, music, documents, etc). You can then share the URL with friends and family or use it to solicit feedback from a work or school colleague.

Point blank there is no simpler way to post your files online. You don’t need to know HTML or understand how to get around a Content Management System (CMS). You don’t need to download any software or subscribe to any monthly payment plans. In fact, you don’t even to need to register for an account.

You can create a website by simply sending an email.

That said, you won’t fully appreciate the coolness of Posterous until you create an account and register your email address. You’ll then be able to aggregate your emails together in one website that you can brand. You can also attach your social media sites to your Posterous account to automatically post to Twitter, Facebook and YouTube every time you add relevant content to Posterous via email.

Check it out. Super cool. And super simple.

Groupon – Deals in Indy like HotBox Pizza

Groupon is one of the coolest deal mechanisms to spring up in the midst of our flailing economy. Most of you have no doubt already heard of this incredibly awesome service. It’s free to join and I receive an email once a day with an exclusive offer to a local restaurant, attraction or professional service. Today I bought 4 $12 gift cards to HotBox Pizza for $20 total. Sweet!

If you are new to the world of online discounts click here to sign up today. Selfishly, I get $10 just for sending you to the site. But you get the satisfaction to know you are a part of something cool. And you get to save money.

Interesting Business Model – Pinboard

Pinboard.in is a social bookmarking service similar to Yahoo’s Del.icio.us. The major difference: Pinboard is not free.

They charge a one-time fee to join that is calculated based on the number of users in the system. This encourages a customer that’s on the fence to sign up now or risk paying more later. The price goes up $0.001 for every new user that joins ($5.94 at the time of this post). Genius!!!

This income stream allows the company to stand above other services in terms of customer support and reliability. If you have a question/problem, you’ll get an answer within minutes and you don’t have to worry about the company closing shop and taking your links with them.

Did I mention I really like the way they drive registrations and grow their bottom line? Kudos.
