The Week that Was – CPAC & An Evil Sickness

I’ve been out of commission for the last week+. I spent 5 days in Washington, DC at the Conservative Political Action Conference (#CPAC10) and I came home sick and have been playing catch up ever since.

For those that don’t know, CPAC is the event of the year for conservatives. Speakers included Congressmen, Senators, a former Vice President, non-profit leaders and TV/Radio personalities. I had the pleasure to meet/interact with Senator Jim Demint from South Carolina, my Congressman Mike Pence from Indiana, author Eric Metaxas, actor/comedian/activist Stephen Baldwin and many other conservative leaders. It was energizing to be a small part of such a growing movement that I believe will change the landscape of our country for decades to come.

CPAC was great and my sickness was awful. Both are over now. I’ll be posting this week about some projects I’ve been working on for months that are finally going live.

Sign The Mount Vernon Statement

Read The Mount Vernon Statement in it’s entirety at www.themountvernonstatement.com. Please note the site has been overloaded and may be down.

“The change we urgently need, a change consistent with the American ideal, is not movement away from but toward our founding principles. At this important time, we need a restatement of Constitutional conservatism grounded in the priceless principle of ordered liberty articulated in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.”

I believe in:

  • Limited government
  • Individual liberty
  • Entrepreneurship and free enterprise
  • Opposing tyranny and advancing freedom
  • Defending family, neighborhood, community & faith

What about you?

Time lapse of the Snow in DC

Great video of the snowfall in Washington DC on Feb 6-8. The federal government has been shut down for three consecutive days and both sides of the political aisle are throwing jabs about how this relates to Global Warming.

Senator Jim DeMint (R – SC) via Twitter – It’s going to keep snowing in DC until Al Gore cries “uncle”

Saints & Colts – Political Contributions

As I’ve mentioned, today’s Super Bowl game is going to be bittersweet for me. I love the Saints and the Colts.

I’ve been looking for reasons to pick one over the other. Frugal Hoosiers just posted a link to the Center for Responsive Politics that outlines the political contributions of the two teams. Although both lean Republican the Saints have donated over $150,000 more my party over the last 20 years.

Really, I think this is just a fun fact. I can’t cheer for one team over the other because of their financial commitments to a political party. I just found this interesting and wanted to share it.

Here’s a summary in Excel format: superbowldonors.xls

I’m cheering for the Colts. I want my best friend, Vince Eagan, to get his very own Super Bowl ring.

Did you watch the POTUS deliver the SOTUS online?

The White House issued a press release yesterday documenting that 1.3 million people watched President Barack Obama deliver the annual State of the Union address via a live stream on Whitehouse.gov.

Many GOP and press websites were doing live blogging during the event and engaging users to participate in the discussion, in real-time.

Congressman Joe Wilson used Facebook to issue a video rebuttal minutes after the conclusion of the event.

Quite a contrast to the same event just 20 years ago.

GOP – From Fox News to Facebook

Ross Douthat writes in the New York Times (Jan, 18), “For decades, they had watched their Republican rivals exploit alternative media to raise money, organize voters and whip up outrage. But the Internet was going to be different,” it was “for the young, the hip, the multicultural, the liberal. Let the G.O.P. be the party of Fox News. The Democrats would be the party of Google, YouTube and Facebook,” and “during the 2008 campaign, that’s exactly what they were.” Adds Douhat, “A year later, some of the Democrats’ advantage is still there. But it’s been crumbling ever since Obama took office.”
